FS17 NewHolland

The New Holland 130FB is the only Poplar Header available in Farming Simulator 17. Its purpose is to cut Poplars and produce Wood Chips. There is no other tool in the game that can interact with Poplars, so the 130FB has no competitors. This is somewhat unfortunate, because the 130FB is notoriously difficult to use, very slow, and very narrow.

Advantages

  • Can Cut Poplars: The 130FB is the only tool in the base game that can cut Poplars. It has absolutely no competition from any other tool.

Disadvantages

  • Narrow and Slow: The Working Width of the 130FB is only 3.0 meters, and it can work no faster than 8 km/h / 4 mph. This makes the Poplar harvest take a very long time, even on small fields.
  • Difficult to Use: Due to a design issue in Farming Simulator 17, the 130FB is very difficult to use, and can cause problems with Hired Workers. Read more on this below.

Sliding Harvester Bug

When harvesting Poplars, the 130FB must be lowered to the ground like most other tools. However, some error in the 3D model or the XML file cause the 130FB to be lowered in such a way that its front edge grazes the ground as it harvests. This can suddenly cause the Forage Harvester to begin sliding diagonally to the left or right. At this point, the 130FB's wheels seem to become locked as well, and the harvester may continue sliding for quite some distance - unable to correct its direction of movement.

This problem effectively makes harvesting with the 130FB extremely frustrating. A Hired Worker, in particular, will be completely confused when he starts sliding this way, carving a weird path through the field until he comes to a stop. Then, he may continue the harvest in a completely different spot. Even when driving manually, it is very difficult to stop the sideways slide.

The problem may be related to towing a container behind the Harvester itself, to collect the Wood Chips during the harvest. It appears that towing the container behind a secondary vehicle (e.g. a Tractor), and driving it next to the harvester as it works, reduces (or eliminates?) the problem. Of course, this requires you to drive that secondary vehicle, while a Hired Worker (or multiplayer friend) drives the Forage Harvester itself.

Overall, the profit from a Poplar harvest is so significant that it may be worth the effort of struggling with the 130FB. Nevertheless, be prepared for the possible frustration.
